Peel is an open-source Android app that turns websites into standalone, app-like experiences. It is powered by GeckoView (Mozilla's browser engine).
Peel does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to the developer or any third party. There are no analytics, tracking SDKs, or telemetry of any kind.
Peel is a web browser. Websites you visit may collect data according to their own privacy policies. Peel provides privacy controls to help protect you, including:
All browsing data (cookies, local storage, cache) is stored locally on your device. Peel supports per-app isolated sandboxes, meaning each web app can have its own separate cookies and storage. You can clear this data at any time.
No browsing data is sent to the developer or any external server.
Peel requests the following Android permissions:
| Permission | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Internet | Loading web content (core functionality) |
| Camera | Websites requesting camera access (e.g. video calls, QR scanning) |
| Microphone | Websites requesting microphone access (e.g. voice messages, video calls) |
| Fine Location | Websites requesting precise GPS location (e.g. maps) |
| Coarse Location | Websites requesting approximate location |
| Storage (Android 12 and below) | Saving downloaded files and uploading files to websites |
| Notifications | Download progress and media playback notifications |
| Foreground Service | Background audio/video playback and file downloads |
| Audio Settings | Media playback volume control |
| Wake Lock | Preventing device sleep during media playback |
| Install Packages | Installing APK updates downloaded through the app |
All permissions that provide access to sensitive data (camera, microphone, location) require explicit user consent at runtime. Peel itself does not use these permissions — they are passed through to websites that request them.
Peel does not include any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. The only third-party component is GeckoView, Mozilla's browser engine, which is used to render web content.
Peel is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children.
This privacy policy may be updated from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. The source of this policy is available in the Peel GitHub repository.
